Where are you located?

Our address is 1101 S 70th street. We are located on the west side of the “Taylor Meadows Medical Center'' building. Not to be confused with the “Taylor Meadows Office Park” which is the brick building to the north of us.

Do I need a referral?

Referrals are not required to make an appointment with us. However, to expedite your care, we recommend seeing your primary care provider for any necessary workup prior to your surgical consultation. Some insurance companies require a referral so please check your plan to make sure one is not required. 

What procedures do you perform?

At General Surgery Associates we perform a wide variety of surgical procedures including gallbladder removal, hernia repair, appendectomy, bowel surgery, breast surgery, pancreatic procedures, skin lesion removal, and much more. See our Procedures page for a detailed list. 

Where will my surgery be performed?

General Surgery Associates is a private practice which allows us to operate at many different hospitals and outpatient surgery centers in Lincoln. These include Bryan East Hospital, Bryan West Hospital, St. Elizabeth Hospital, Lincoln Surgical Hospital, Doctor’s Outpatient Surgery Center, and Nebraska Surgery Center. Deciding where your surgery will be performed will be a decision you and your surgeon make depending on the complexity of your procedure, your medical comorbidities, and your insurance. Dr Rathje is an outstanding surgeon. He takes time to make sure you are full of knowledge about your procedures and answers any and all questions, no matter how crazy they may be. He has amazing energy and makes you feel comfie in what you may be going thru. He and his nurses have this wonderful way of joking around to bring your anxiety down and they send you on your way with a smile and feeling as if you have hit the jackpot with a team that cares about you. My surgery has had some hurdles to cross but Dr Rathje has been there along with Amanda to make sure that I was taken care of and to explain why we were having those hurdles and held my hand as we worked to get me back up and going. Dr. Olberding prevented an emergency surgery for me by listening to symptoms and reviewing my history, which was from out of state. He swiftly scheduled me for surgery the morning after consultation due to the severity and painful symptoms I was having. My post surgical pain management was perfect. He also made my follow up call himself which is not standard in healthcare these days. My laparoscopic scars are nearly undetectable as well.
